Oral Hematinics : Different types and brands

 

1. Folic acid

---

• dose : 5mg daily
• folic acid aka vitamin B9, responsible for red blood cell formation

2. Obimin

---

• dose : 1 tab daily
• each tablet : 30mg elemental iron
• also contains folic acid

3. Ferrous fumarate

---

• dose : 1 tab  daily, up to 3 tabs daily
• each tablet : 60mg elemental iron
• does not contain folic acid

4. Zincofer

---

• dose : 1 tab daily
• each tablet : 115mg elemental iron
• side effect : gastrointestinal symptoms
• also contains folic acid

5. Iberet

---

• dose : 1 tab daily
• each tablet : 105mg elemental iron
• side effect : gastrointestinal symptoms
• also contains folic acid

6. Maltofer

---

• dose  : 1 tab daily, up to 3 tabs daily
• each tablet : 100mg elemental iron
• may or may not contain folic acid
